Training Maker documentation
Everything you need to author courses, assign them to learners, and run a training program end to end. Short on time? The Help Center is searchable and the floating "?" bubble is available on every page.
Quick start
Sign in, hit Courses in the top nav, and click New Course. You can either start blank or pick a starter template. The editor opens with a default lesson slide ready to edit.
- Pick a starter or blank, give the course a name.
- Add lessons, quizzes, and a certificate slide.
- Click Publish when you're ready. Assigned learners see it immediately.
If you don't want to author from scratch, try the AI brief — paste a topic or audience prompt and we draft an outline plus mixed-kind quizzes.
Open Courses Help CenterThe course editor
A course is a sequence of scenes. Each scene is one screen the learner sees: a lesson slide, a quiz, a video, a certificate, etc. You move through scenes in the order they appear in the left panel. Drag to reorder.
The four panels
- Left: the scene list. Drag to reorder, right-click for actions.
- Center: the canvas — what the learner will see. Click to select an object, drag to move.
- Right: the properties panel — every selected object's settings.
- Top: the toolbar — save, preview, publish, theme, assignments.
Scene kinds
- Lesson slide — title + body + optional image. The default scene type.
- Quiz — one or more questions; can mix kinds (see below).
- Video — YouTube or self-hosted (recommended for corporate networks).
- Certificate — completion screen. Usually the last slide.
Saving + autosave
The editor autosaves on every meaningful change, plus a hard save on tab close. The toolbar shows a "Saved" indicator when the cloud copy is current. If you ever lose connection, your edits queue locally and replay when you're back.
Quiz question kinds
A single Quiz scene can hold a mix of question kinds. Use the kind chips at the top of the quiz builder to add a new question of any type.
| Kind | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple choice | One correct answer, several distractors. | Concept checks, knowledge recall. |
| True / False | Binary statement; learner picks T or F. | Quick comprehension checks. |
| Fill in the blank | Type-in answer with acceptable variants. | Definitions, terminology, exact recall. |
| Image hotspot | Learner clicks the right region on an image. | Diagrams, UI tours, anatomy, equipment labels. |
The AI course brief
The fastest way to draft a course. Open the File menu → AI Brief in the editor. Two modes:
- Structured: fill in topic, audience, duration, and learning objectives.
- Prompt mode: paste a raw prompt describing what you want. We pass it through.
The model drafts an outline plus mixed-kind quizzes and applies them as scenes. You can re-run the brief at any time to regenerate. Tweaks go in your own edits; the AI brief doesn't overwrite manual changes unless you start fresh.
What the AI is good at
- Generic compliance topics (data privacy, anti-harassment, safety basics).
- Industry-standard process explanations (onboarding, customer-service playbooks).
- Definition-and-example structures.
What you'll want to write yourself
- Anything specific to your company's policies, products, or people.
- Anything where the wording is contractually or legally significant.
- Brand voice. The AI is neutral; your brand probably isn't.
Assignments & learners
Once a course is published, assign it to learners from the editor toolbar's Assignments button.
Inviting learners
Enter learner emails. Optional fields: due date, group/department, reminder cadence. We send an invitation email with a sign-in link; the course appears on their My Learning page the first time they sign in.
Tracking progress
Open Dashboard in the top nav. Each course shows a roster with:
- Status: not started / in progress / completed.
- Quiz score (if the course has quizzes).
- Time spent.
- Last activity timestamp.
Click any learner to drill in to their per-scene progress. Export the roster to CSV from the dashboard's three-dot menu.
Due dates and reminders
If you set a due date, learners get a reminder email three days before and on the due date itself. After a missed deadline, you can configure escalation in the assignment settings (notify learner only, or notify learner + their manager).
Themes & branding
Every course has a theme — a palette of colors, type, and slide background treatments. Open Settings → Theme in the editor toolbar.
Course-level themes
Pick a preset (Slate, Sky, Forest, Sand, Ink, Crimson, etc.) or build a custom palette. The theme drives text color, slide background, button accent, and quiz feedback colors.
Org-level branding
Org admins can set a workspace-wide accent color, logo, and display name. Open Settings → Branding. This brand applies to the learner sign-in screen, the My Learning page, the certificate by default, and email notifications.
Individual courses can still override the org accent if a specific course needs to read differently (e.g. a compliance course branded in red).
Standalone export
On paid plans, you can export a course as a single self-contained HTML file. It runs offline from any disk or web server — no Training Maker connection required.
From the editor toolbar: File → Export → Standalone HTML. Wait a few seconds while
the assets are inlined; you'll get a single .html file in your downloads.
What's bundled
- All scene content, theme, and configuration.
- Every image used by the course (data-URI inlined).
- Bundled fonts (custom uploaded fonts are also embedded if your tier supports them).
- The player engine itself.
What's not bundled
- YouTube videos — the YouTube player still needs an internet connection. Use the Self-hosted video object if you need full offline.
- Learner progress tracking — the standalone export does not phone home, so completion data stays local in the learner's browser. Useful for kiosks; not useful for compliance reporting.
Team & roles
Training Maker is multi-tenant: every account belongs to one or more orgs. Within an org, members have one of three roles.
| Role | Can do | Consumes a seat |
|---|---|---|
| Learner | Take assigned courses, view their own progress. | No |
| Creator | Everything a learner can, plus author and publish courses, view the dashboard for courses they own. | Yes |
| Org Admin | Everything a creator can, plus invite teammates, change roles, manage billing, edit org branding. | Yes (counts as a Creator seat) |
Learners are unlimited on every plan. Seats only count creators and org admins. Manage roles from Team in the top nav (org admins only).
Plans & billing
Plans are priced per creator seat, billed monthly or annually (2 months free on annual).
| Plan | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49 / creator / month | Solo creators, small businesses. |
| Pro | $149 / creator / month | Teams that need standalone export, AI brief, custom fonts. |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Larger orgs needing SSO, audit logs, and dedicated support. |
Every new signup gets a 14-day Pro trial, no card required. Cancel any time during the trial and pay nothing.
Managing your subscription
Open Settings → Billing → Manage subscription. That takes you to the Stripe Customer Portal where you can:
- Upgrade, downgrade, or change billing cadence.
- Update payment card.
- Download invoices.
- Cancel — takes effect at the end of the current period.
If something the portal can't fix (refund, invoice correction, weird charge), open a support ticket and we handle it personally.
Getting help
- Help Center — searchable FAQ. The fastest answer for common questions.
- Floating "?" bubble — bottom-right of every screen. Searches the same FAQ inline.
- Email — [email protected] for anything else.
